Mentor a Mayoite
Connecting Mayo College students with alumni for meaningful mentorship.
Mentor a Mayoite is a mentorship initiative designed to bridge generations of the Mayo
College community. It pairs current students (Mentees) with accomplished alumni (Mentors) or Parent of a Mayorite who can offer guidance, perspective, and insight into academic choices, career paths, and
personal development.
Whether a student is exploring future study options or seeking to understand a particular
profession, this program offers them a chance to connect directly with someone who’s been
in their shoes—and beyond.
How the Program Works
Each Mentee is thoughtfully matched with a Mentor whose educational background orprofessional experience aligns with their field of interest. The program typically runs for aduration of 3–4 months, during which the Mentor and Mentee engage in regular virtualcommunication.
There is no “one-size-fits-all” approach. The structure of the interaction is intentionallyflexible, allowing each pair to determine what works best for them. Common formats include,
Casual Conversations: Open-ended video or phone chats where students can ask questions and explore topicsorganically.
Structured Sessions: Scheduled meetings with focused agendas, such as presentations, curated reading, orshort assignments.
Hybrid Models: A combination of informal discussions and periodic structured guidance to offer bothclarity and context.
The goal is simple: to ensure that students gain real-world insight, personal clarity, anda deeper understanding of the paths available to them.
Why Become a Mentor?
As a Mayo College alumnus or being a parent of a Mayorite, you have a unique opportunity to give back—not just to theschool, but to the next generation of Mayoites. By volunteering your time and expertise, youcan help shape a student’s journey, inspire confidence, and provide the kind of guidance youmay have once sought yourself. Many past Mentors have described the experience as rewarding, fulfilling, and even eye-opening, as it often reconnects them to their own early motivations and aspirations.
How to Volunteer as a Mentor
“Mentor A Mayoite” connects current Mayo students with alumni or parents as mentors. Each mentee is paired with a mentor experienced in their field of interest. Over three months, they interact via email and virtual meetings, allowing mentees to seek guidance and mentors to share advice as per availability.
This form only indicates interest; final pairing occurs after your consent, with program details shared by mail.
